Implants are referred to the “artificial root” that support the restoration that resembles natural teeth. Implants are small Titanium posts that are placed into healthy jaw bone. During the first 2-6 months of healing the bone grows around the Titanium post. Once successfully completed and integrated the implant becomes part of the jaw bone and a crown can be placed on top for function and esthetics. Implants have approximately a 95% success rate providing no contraindications. Implants are not at risk of dental caries but can fail due to periodontal disease and for this reason it is important to have regular checkups and maintain good hygiene habits.
